Operation Lakeshot, Catapult Crime Awareness |
||
|
We are seeing an increase both locally and nationally in reports of individuals using catapults to target wild birds, wildlife and in some cases domestic pets. Operation Lakeshot is a coordinated multi-agency initiative involving Police forces, the National Wildlife Crime Unit, and animal welfare charities such as the RSPCA It targets the rising trend of offenders using high-powered catapults often fuelled by social media challenges to attack waterfowl and urban wildlife. Using a catapult to injure or kill animals can result in criminal offences, including wildlife crime and animal welfare offences. These actions can cause unnecessary suffering and distress. If you witness anyone using a catapult to target wild birds, wildlife or pets, please report it. If a crime is taking place, call 999. For non-emergencies, report information via 101 or online https://www.suffolk.police.uk/tell-us
